Two tips to follow if you want to sell your homemade pottery

Posted on

If you make pottery and you think that there is a demographic of people who might like to buy your creations, you might find the tips here useful.

Consider including some small gifts with each purchase

When you sell a piece of pottery, you should consider providing the purchaser with some small gifts that can be used with the handcrafted object. For example, if you make clay oil diffusers, you could include a vial of scented diffuser oil with each one that a customer purchases, along with a tealight. The vials do not have to be very large; providing enough diffuser oil for a person to burn for a couple of hours should be enough. This will not only give each customer a happy surprise when they open their package but will also mean that they won't have to wait until they've bought their own oils and tealights for it before they can start using it.

If you paint your diffusers after making them, you could also ensure that the free oil you include with each one complements the colour of this object. For example, if you sell a purple diffuser, you could include lavender oil with it. Similarly, if you sell a yellow diffuser, you could include lemon oil. This is a small, thoughtful touch that will make the overall package all the more enjoyable for the customer to open and use.

Be extra cautious when you're packing the oils in with the diffusers

If you decide to include oils with your diffusers, you should ensure that the former is very carefully packed. For example, in addition to ensuring that the lid or cork on each vial of oil is secured, you should also add a piece of decorative tape to this area, so that the lid or cork doesn't fall off before the package reaches the customer.

This is important because if the diffuser arrives in oily packaging and is itself coated in oil, the recipient will not only miss out on using this oil but will also have to spend time washing the diffuser before they can use it. If the oil was highly scented, it might linger on the diffuser even after they have washed it and might, therefore, affect how the other oils they pour into it end up smelling. As such, it's vital to pack this extra item with great care so it does not spoil your customers' experience of opening this much-anticipated parcel.
